  • ExecutivePulse/Business Retention and Expansion (BR&E) Opportunity
On Tuesday, July 1, VEDP is sponsoring a one-day training seminar on ExecutivePulse as a tool for Business Retention and Expansion. This training session is designed for communities that are still contemplating whether to implement ExecutivePulse, as well as for those communities who have already made the commitment. To secure a place at this informative seminar, please complete the registration form and return it to by June 25 via e-mail or fax (804-545-5611). The morning session is designed to explain how the ExecutivePulse platform can enhance your existing BR&E efforts (or jumpstart a program where one does not currently exist). Laith will walk you through a demonstration of ExecutivePulse so that you can better understand the program components, and he will answer your questions in this interactive session.

For communities that have already purchased ExecutivePulse, the afternoon session is designed to learn how to make your BR&E visit a value-added proposition for your businesses and you. This session will get more into the "nuts and bolts" of the techniques of making a visit that maximizes your existing executives' time and the important information you need to glean from your visit.

VEDP has purchased a state license for the ExecutivePulse™ Business Intelligence/Database system, making this powerful customer tracking system available to cities and counties at a greatly reduced cost. VEDP strongly believes that a business retention and expansion (BR&E) program should be an integral part of every community’s economic development effort; that is why we invested in this master license agreement, making it affordable for every Virginia locality. How can you learn more about this opportunity?
    • First, start by reading “The Home Field Advantage” which provides answers to key questions about this system and your participation in a state-wide BR&E database. You may also find the basic primer “Why BR&E” useful in convincing your elected leaders that this is a sound investment.
    • Second, contact the folks at ExecutivePulse ( and ) to request an on-line demonstration. Go to www.executivepulse.com and sign up for an on-line test drive.

  • VEDP Orientation
The next VEDP Orientation will be held September 17, 2008. Lunch will be provided. The Orientation Briefing is an opportunity to learn about the mission and operations of VEDP, to meet key VEDP staff members, and to see how VEDP's efforts can support your community's economic development activities. The briefings are held in VEDP's 20th Floor Presentation Center, and invitations are sent to those new to economic development in Virginia. Please contact if you are interested in attending the orientation.

If you have recently participated in the VEDP Orientation, we would appreciate your participation in a brief survey on your experience. The survey takes less than 5 minutes to complete and will provide valuable feeback as we seek to improve future orientations. Click here to launch the survey.
